ROTOCON brings world-stage label tech to Africa

When the doors of hall 7 swung open at the Johannesburg Expo Centre on 11 March, ROTOCON warmly welcomed Africa’s print, packaging and labelling industry with bold energy and open arms. At Propak Africa, its stand wasn’t just a display –it was a showstopper. And the company commanded every second of it.

Positioned right at the entrance like a royal gatekeeper of the future of label printing, the 210m² space was a beacon. A vibrant, pulsing hub of innovation, deal-making and electric energy.

ROTOCON’s multi-stand presence (A8, A14, B9 and B13) was swarming with visitors. Conversations were flowing, machines were humming and the unmistakable energy of business being done was thick in the air. And right in the centre of it all stood ROTOCON’s group CEO, Michael Aengenvoort – the ever-driven visionary who has been building this empire from the ground up.

‘We didn’t want a showroom,’ Michael explains. ‘We wanted to recreate a live, working label production floor – the sights, the sounds, the pace – so visitors could truly understand how these machines perform in real-world conditions.’

The ECOLINE RFP 340 flexo press dazzled with cost effective, high-performance label production. Add the Erhardt+Leimer SMARTSCAN 200% inspection system, and the press didn’t just print – it performed. For digital lovers, the SCREEN Truepress LABEL L350UV SAI inkjet press ran seamlessly alongside the CHROME RDF 330 finishing system, offering speed, precision and proof that digital printing has arrived – and it’s here to dominate.

The EyeC ProofRunner Web HighLight system, equipped with next-gen AI defect classification, turned heads as it ran on the RSH 340 finishing machine, while DYM Machinery’s automatic roll-changers brought serious firepower to production efficiency.

‘This was never a one-man show,’ Michael humbly proclaims. ‘ROTOCON’s presence at Propak Africa was the result of nine months of meticulous planning, collaboration and sheer hard work from every single member of our team. We sweated every detail – and it paid off.’

He adds: ‘We didn’t want to just be part of Propak Africa. We wanted to raise the bar. To show the industry what’s possible when you go all in – when you believe in your brand, your partners and your customers.’

ROTOCON’s success at the show didn’t happen by accident. It was the result of strategy, sweat and soul. It rolled out a powerhouse lineup of digital and flexographic printing and finishing equipment. Live demos were the heartbeat of the stand – not flashy for the sake of showmanship but real, hands on access to cutting-edge machines.

And of course, the cherry on top: Pantec’s RHINO® X embellishment magic, presented by Roger Meierhofer, which left converters wide-eyed at the luxurious detail it brings to labels. The VICUT post-press cutting solutions also added punch, showing how versatile, accessible and high-end f inishing can be.

But beyond the machinery, beyond the technical specs, there was something intangible driving the success: ROTOCON’s human touch.

‘We invited customers personally,’ Michael shares. ‘I mean really – we looked them in the eye, told them we have live machine demos, told them: come and bring your operators. Don’t just send the bosses – send the people who’ll run these machines. Let them see the power, touch it, understand it.’

That invitation? It paid off tenfold.

Machine operators, technicians and production managers were everywhere at the ROTOCON stand, huddled around presses, asking questions, offering real-world insights. These weren’t passive viewers – they were participants. That’s a rarity at most local shows, and ROTOCON made it happen.

‘It’s simple,’ Michael says, his voice charged with conviction. ‘You can’t sell a machine to someone who’s never run one. The operators need to believe in it – that’s why we brought an international trade show experience to South Africa. We created an environment where people could say, “This is what we need. This is how we move forward.”’

And forward they moved. ROTOCON’s team was constantly on their feet – conducting demos, explaining workflows, sealing deals or entertaining high-level conversations in their sleek, impromptu boardroom tucked inside the stand. There was never a dull moment. No downtime. Just momentum.

But perhaps what struck most visitors – and competitors – was how deeply ROTOCON lives its brand. ‘We don’t just import a machine and call it a day,’ Michael insists. ‘We build real, long-term partnerships – with our suppliers and our customers. We service the machines, maintain them, train your operators and fix them when needed. We put our name behind every solution we provide. So when you see a SCREEN press or an EyeC inspection unit running in South Africa, it’s not just theirs – it’s part of the ROTOCON ecosystem.’

This philosophy – of accountability, pride and long-term partnership – is what has built ROTOCON into a powerhouse.

‘There’s a new energy now,’ Michael says, reflecting. ‘I dreamed this dream decades ago. But I always knew it would come down to how we show up. Internally first – with a team that believes. And externally – with customers who know we’ve got their back long after the show lights fade.’

And as the curtain closed on Propak Africa, one thing was certain: ROTOCON didn’t just participate. It dominated – with vision, passion and an unshakable belief in doing things differently. And better.
