ROTOCON launches third annual student wine label design competition

ROTOCON kicks off its third annual student wine label design competition with Tshwane University of Technology, inviting young creatives to explore the art and craft of wine label design. Supported by SA Litho Label Printers, the competition offers hands-on industry experience, mentorship, and the chance to have winning designs celebrated at ROTOCON’s awards function and WineLand Media’s 30 Under 30 Awards, showcasing ROTOCON’s dedication to developing future talent.

ROTOCON has kicked offits third annual student wine label design competition in partnership withthe Tshwane University ofTechnology (TUT). The competition is open to undergraduate students inTUT’s Department of Visual Communication (Integrated Communication Design(ICD)), Faculty of Arts & Design, with 60 students participating.

Banie Stafford of BCreative, ROTOCON’s marketing agency, met with the students on 24 February tobrief them on the competition. He led sessions covering an introduction toROTOCON, printing processes and embellishments, in addition to key wine labeldesign elements, including paper, colour use, die-cutting, andtypography—concluding with the importance of ‘knowing your target market’.

SA Litho Label Printers willonce again collaborate with ROTOCON in this year’s competition by printing thewinning label. Additionally, Dawrian Salies, General Manager of SA Litho LabelPrinters, will join Michael Aengenvoort, ROTOCON Group CEO, and Stafford on thejudging panel on 14 April, followed by an awards function on 15 April. Thecompetition winner will also be recognised at WineLand Media’s 30 Under 30Awards on 30 May, with ROTOCON sponsoring the event for the sixth consecutiveyear.

“This competitionreflects ROTOCON’s investment in youth and social development by fosteringcreativity, sharing new industry knowledge, and hands-on experience in winelabel design,” said Stafford. “We are pleased with the increased studentparticipation this year, as it demonstrates the growing enthusiasm for winelabel design among young creatives.
